Hear it from our team:

I came to Harbour City Vets as a new Grad in 2021 from Adelaide.

The team were very warm and welcoming.

I have had the opportunity to develop exceptional clinical and surgical skills with constant mentoring and support.

Being a busy clinic, I was fortunate enough to perform upwards of 6 routine desexing/general soft tissue procedures a day with dedicated mentoring.  The experienced support team make a huge difference, always around with guidance and assistance.  The clinic has a varied caseload and I have experienced “hands on” a wide variety of interesting general and emergency cases to build my skill set.

Apiam also provide support via a Graduate Development Program, with external mentors, workshops and weekend retreats.  The program is aimed at building resilience, managing a good work life balance and putting you in touch with like minded peers to build a support network.

As a New Grad if you are looking for a clinic to support personal growth and hands on skills, I would recommend working at Harbour City Vets.

Gladstone is a nice easy town to live in and navigate around.  The real estate is very reasonable, the climate is perfect and I love living so close to the beach on my days off Dr Taylor Smith

I came to Harbour City Vet Surgery as an international Vet needing to pass the AVE exam for registration in Australia.  The team were extremely supportive, professionally and personally.  APIAM were able to provide opportunities within other AAH clinics to help gain extra experience and skills to prepare for my final AVE exams for the large animal competencies which could not be achieved in a small animal only clinic.  The caseload is varied and exciting, we carry out a large number of both routine and non routine medical, surgical and emergency cases.  I have also been fortunate enough to gain hands on experience familarising myself with and treating native wildlife in clinic.

Gladstone is a great regional area to live in.  There is so much great outdoors to explore, camping, hiking fishing and beaches close by.  Most facilities you require are available locally and if not, Rockhampton is a 1hr drive north or Brisbane a 1hr flight away.Dr Lisa Hauer

I have been working for the Harbour City Veterinary surgery for 20 years as a Veterinary Nurse.  I was employed whilst the clinic was a small family owned business and throughout our transition to become a part of Apiam Animal Health group.  It is always a scary thought when you find out your workplace is going from family owned to corporate.  Apiam made the transition smooth and business continued as normal for all us staff.  We have a massive amount of support in all areas business and personally plus a few extra perks, corporate staff discounts from various vendors and a bonus “Apiam day off” each year.  The team at Harbour City is great to be a part of, we pride ourselves on our family orientated culture, support of one another and staff longevity.  We have a well fitted out clinic with in-house pathology machines, digital xrays and ultrasound to name a few.

I have raised a family in Gladstone and there are diverse range of opportunities available locally in sports, the arts and general outdoor activities.  Gladstone offers all the major facilities you require without the crazy busy hustle and traffic of capital cities.  There is an abundance of National Parks, Beaches and Islands to explore at our doorstep, along with wonderful Cafes, restaurants and outdoor parks and spaces such as East Shores and Spinnaker Park to relax and chill.–  Sarah, Clinic Coordinator/Nurse.

Gladstone is a fantastic part of Queensland. We have everything here from beach to bush and the perfect climate. You can go for a stroll at our beautiful marina, Spinnaker Park or East Shores waterfront precinct and have lunch overlooking the harbour and islands, explore our award winning botanic garden and walking trails.  If you love the outdoors there are National Parks and State Forests to explore in all directions, some with significant historical heritage such as WWII bomber “Betsy” in Kroombit National Park. Or you might want to watch a show at our Entertainment Centre, world class ballet companies and performing acts and enjoy an espresso martini at the wine bar or visit our art gallery. You can take a tinny out onto Lake Awoonga, a beautiful place for family picnics and barbeques, swimming and water sports, fish or crab in the local rivers or join a fishing competition to catch a Barra. We are at the Southern end of The Great Barrier Reef and have access to an abundance of Islands such as Heron or Lady Musgrave where you can snorkel and dive the coral reefs.  If interested in marine animals, you can volunteer at the Quion Island turtle rehabilitation centre, which homes, green, leatherback and hawksbill sea turtles.  Agnes Waters, is the most northern surf beach on the QLD coast, a great day or weekend escape.
