Apiam Animal Health operates a group of a practices in rural and regional Australia. We are seeking an experienced specialist Equine Veterinary Surgeon for Hunter Equine Centre – NSW to fill a full-time role.

Our practice has an excellent, new facility at Scone racetrack with council approved plans for a new surgery building. Surgeons from our partner practice, Randwick Equine Centre, and a seasonal surgeon currently operate from this facility, and we also have an internal medicine specialist based in the hospital. The clinic is well equipped with multiple ultrasound, digital radiography, videoendoscopy and gastroendoscopy units, new arthroscopy equipment and a comprehensive in-house laboratory.
Our clients include some excellent and well managed stud farms in the Hunter Valley, with over 1000 mares under our care, and an important yearling sale component. We also service many of the local trainers and pre-trainers in the area and consider ourselves very fortunate to have such friendly and successful clients.
We would like to fill this position with someone who is equally committed to providing the highest standard of care to both our stud and racetrack cliental. Experience in thoroughbred orthopaedics would be considered important, with additional interest in lameness, diagnostic imaging and soft-tissue surgery desirable to provide both studs and racetrack clients with a comprehensive service.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Specialist registration with state Veterinary Board
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent degree
- A minimum of two years’ veterinary experience focusing on equine surgery.
- Current and valid Driver’s license
- Demonstrated ability to focus on customer needs
- Ability to work as a team and independently with all members of staff
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to clearly communicate with staff and clients alike
- Time management with regard to both punctuality and the ability to complete tasks within the required timeframe
- Maintain a high standard of presentation, taking pride in one’s personal appearance and the clinic itself
- Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to a mixed animal practice
The salary offered will be significantly above $100,000 and will be based upon experience.
